1. Your project brief

Project reference / date: ________________________________

Area or postcode: ________________________________   Preferred timescale: ________________________________

Work needed: □ New boundary □ Replacement □ Repair □ Gate

Purpose: □ Privacy □ Appearance □ Containment □ Other: ________________________________

Preferred style, height and post material: ________________________________

What needs to stay? Plants, structures, existing supports or access: ________________________________

Boundary ownership / permission questions still to resolve: ________________________________

Access width, steps, parking and carrying route: ________________________________

2. Approximate measurements

Measure only from safe, permitted access at ground level. Do not climb, disturb an unstable fence or dig to find services. These notes are not a boundary survey or a materials order. The installer must confirm dimensions, site conditions and the layout.

Give each straight run a letter. Mark bends, gates, level changes and obstacles on the sketch. Record units; distinguish a panel’s width from the distance between posts. Do not assume a height beside a road is permitted.

Sketch your boundary here. Label runs A–D, gates and the house.

Photo checklist: □ Whole run □ Affected part □ Access route. Avoid neighbours, people and identifying documents; obtain permission where needed.

3. Compare up to three written quotations

Ask each contractor to price the same brief. Write “not stated” where information is missing and ask for clarification before comparing totals. A lower price may describe a different scope.

4. Next step

Keep the accepted written offer and agreed changes with this pack. Do not treat completion of the worksheet as a booking, design approval or confirmation of a fixed price.
